Underwater street
, next to the Royal Liver Building in Liverpool is a hands on, experimental learning environment that has been designed especially for children aged between 2 & 10 and their parents.

The venue is split into several zones with each zone designed to appeal to the different aspects of a child’s personality and provide the right balance of fun and education.

Rainford Models are proud to have beeing involved in building some of the interactive models used in the many of the zones. Ths pictures below show some of the interactive exhibits in the zone called "The Lab" that have been made by us.

Camera Obscura MOdel
Electric Confetti

Camera Obscura

If you place the cloth over your head and peer inside the dark box. On the inside, on a white screen an upside down image of the room.

Electric Confetti

Rubbing the clear plastic sheet on the top of the thin box with a soft cloth charges it with static, attracting the small pieces of paper to its surface. As the paper touches the clear plastic, a similar charge flows into them causing the clear plastic to repel them away. The charge is lost as they hit the bottom of the box, and so they become attracted again.

Infinity Mirror

When looking through the hole in the square hanging mirror you are presented with a reflection of a reflection of a reflection of a reflection and so on to infinity.

Model Ghost Reflections
magnetic pendulum

Ghost Reflections

There are two bright red beads but one is not there, your hand passes through it. One is just a reflection, the other is hovering in space in front of the mirrored dome.

Magnetic Pendulum

Nudge the hanging rod and watch how it behaves above the magnets below it. A strong magnet is on the end of the rod, some of the magnets below are set to attract the rod, some are set to repel it.

Pressure Diver
shampoo turbulance

Pressure Diver

Squeeze the bottle on both sides to make the diver sink, this works because you are increasing the pressure in the water, and the air bubbles in the sauce sachet are squeezed smaller which makes it sink.

[The bottle is fitted with our specially designed, non-removable cap.]

Shampoo Turbulence

Give the bottle a spin and watch the swirling patterns made by the shiny particles added to the water that make it possible to see how the water moves.

tornado bottles
turning magnets

Tornado Bottles

Turn the two joined bottles upside down and swirl the coloured water around, the water will spin around just like its going down a plughole.

Turning Magnets

Spin or turn one of the rotating magnets, the tips of the each magnet are coloured red and blue, some of the ends repel each other and some of them attract each other.

Video Microscope

Video Microscope

Place an object underneath the camera, you will see it magnified on the screen. To make it look larger, move it closer to the camera's lens.
