The Sellafield visitors centre has several interactive exhibits that were designed by Ian Russell and built by us. These allow the visitor to gain an insight into the science behind the work carried out at Sellafield.

Generator

Spinning the horseshoe magnet by hand generates an alternating current when the circuit is closed using the other hand. If the diode is included in the circuit, a rectified direct current is generated.

Soap Film

This mini interactive model creates a flat bubble film that produces what appears to be ever changing colours.

Atmospheric Circulation Model

Atmospheric Circulation

This extremely appealing and beautiful design uses suspended particles in a "flow-tracing fluid" to reveal every detail of the turbulent patterns when the table is spun by its rim. It is comprised of three hemispheres in differing sizes and colours, mounted on the same table top.
